PlanGrid Provides Construction Companies Powerful Security and Privacy Safeguards with New Certifications

Construction productivity software pioneer sets industry standard by obtaining SOC2 Type 2 certificate, OAuth 2.0 and Privacy Shield

San Francisco, CA — September 18, 2018 — PlanGrid, the leader in construction productivity software, today announced it has achieved three new security and privacy milestones, demonstrating its commitment to keeping customers’ data safe and secure. These milestones include one of the highest levels of security accreditation for software companies in the United States, SOC 2 Type 2 certification, as well as OAuth 2.0 and Privacy Shield. PlanGrid is the only mobile-first construction productivity software to offer all three safeguards across desktop and all iOS and Android devices.

The new security and privacy measures will provide a competitive advantage for PlanGrid customers, particularly general contractors and specialty contractors who work directly with government entities on infrastructure projects such as airports and subway systems that require an extra level of secure documentation. For owners like Departments of Transportation or metro authorities, PlanGrid’s security and privacy measures provide peace of mind that blueprints and sensitive construction data are secure and will remain confidential.

The new security and privacy standards PlanGrid has achieved include:

  • SOC2 Type 2 certification: Service Organization Control (SOC) 2 Type 2 report is issued based on stringent guidelines in which an independent auditing firm examined controls relevant to the security, confidentiality and availability of PlanGrid's platform and processes. The SOC 2 report demonstrates PlanGrid’s ability to not only implement critical security policies but also prove compliance over an extended period of time. By working with a SOC 2 certified vendor like PlanGrid, users receive a higher level of assurance their data is kept secure through the implementation of standardized controls as defined in the AICPA Trust Service Principles framework.
  • OAuth 2.0: the industry standard for authorization, OAuth 2.0 provides authorization flows for PlanGrid’s web, desktop and mobile application and allows users to easily and securely authenticate with PlanGrid using their Google account.
  • Privacy Shield: in line with specifications set by the U.S. Department of Commerce and the European Commission and Swiss Administration, PlanGrid is now Privacy Shield certified, which ensures it meets data protection requirements when transferring personal data from the European Union and Switzerland to the United States. With global construction on the rise, construction companies need the ability to share data between their U.S. and EU projects and offices. Privacy Shield enables the legal transfer of data and helps assure users’ security and privacy when transferring data across borders.

“As more construction information becomes digital, GCs, subs and owners are increasingly faced with risks associated with data privacy and IT security,” said Srikanth Veeraraghavan, head of security at PlanGrid. “Companies should entrust sensitive data such as blueprints and contracts only to technology providers that can ensure the highest level of security possible. PlanGrid is loved for our easy-to-use software, and we also give our customers enterprise-level scalability, reliability and data management. Our industry-leading measures reinforce to our customers just how seriously we take security and data privacy.”
